Dimitri from Paris was all that lounge we could
handle back on Friday the 13th. Points for
Superlounge bringing this international DJ to
Chicago! Saturday December 14th brought us several
fun events: The Grammaphone Christmas Party at
Zentra, featuring Derrick Carter, Josh Werner, Marko
Katic, Frank Q, and Rebecca. Also on the 14th was
Armin Van Buuren @ Spundae @ Vision. Props to
Spundae by the way…….they have been delivering acts
and DJs to Chicago that we haven't seen or heard
yet. Thanks for the breath of fresh air!!! Lisa
Lexus let us have it with her Glam Sunday kickoff
party at Domaine on December 8th. DJ Victor threw
the sounds around, and word was that it was very
cute. |

PHOENIX PARTY WRAP UP!: DJ remixer/producer
Mark Picciotti (pictured right) let us have it
at the Metro on the 14th. (along with Santa's
stripping helpers) Personally, I've been a fan
of Mark for years and I like when he throws his
own remixes to his set. Job well done, Mr. P!
DJ Tom McBride didn't let the children off the
dancefloor on Sunday the 15th at Excalibur for
the Boi Magazine sponsored Phoenix T dance. It
brought back memories of Funky Buddha Lounge!!

Later in the evening we sauntered over to the house
of GLEE for Pete Crow and the M4MSEX.COM party. Did
you walk out with some? On Monday December 16th we
heard DJ Kevin Reed from DC throwing down
underground sounds abound at FELT. Kevin is an
instrumental part of DC's growing underground scene
and will be back again on the 30th for the Chi- town
kiddies. Jackhammer hosted the Whitney (I'm not a
crackwhore, honest!!) Houston CD giveaway party for
her new endeavor "Just Whitney" back on December
18th. Sources indicate it was quite fun! Local
sound slinger Greg Drescher opened for David Knapp
back on the 22nd of December @ GLEE club. David was
cute also and made the children of the Circuit
persuasion live. Greg will be opening for Manny
Lehman on the 29th also @
Crobar. House music
legend Steve "Silk" Hurley jacks our bodies at
SmartBar on December 26th. I think I still have a
copy of JM Silk in my record crate at mamma's house! |

What are you doing New Year's Eve? Felt is having their "FELT 10". I'll be playing this
year's top 10 dance cuts until the countdown. Lisa
Lexus is the hostess with the mostess. Joe G. @
Crobar on New Year's
eve promises to give the circuit gals all the happy
happy joy joy their brains can handle. Transit
features the turntable masterings of DJ Goose on the
31st. Kids, let me tell you (and I know I speak for
more than myself on this one!) if you get a chance,
go hear Goose at Transit sometime. He's one of
Chicago's best kept secrets. Some of you may have
heard his CD floating around several after-sets in
the city lately. It's off the hook, and so is his
sound. Brinca Baila Amor Puerto Riqueno
Ralphi Rosario holds down the fort at Berlin New Year's Eve with his "House Party". Justin
Long & Josh Werner will be digging the underground
sounds at Smartbar on NYE. Zentra gives us Gene
Farris as we change over the year. Boi Magazine and Circuit host the "Head" party @ Upstairs, 2624 N
Lincoln Ave on NYE with sounds by Brett Locascio.
Spin gives us
the sounds of Peter Maverik on New Year's with doors
opening at 9pm. Dim all the lights! - Sunday Jan.
5th, a legend closes its doors, but not forever.
Crobar hosts the "Last
Dance" on the 5th, with guest DJ's from the past 10
years. They are closing their doors for a makeover
and rumbles of GLEE club on the run are already
hitting the streets. |

Adam Freemer, a relative newcomer to the world of
remixing, gives us 2 new tracks: "H20" & "13th
Tribe" this week on Twisted. Hello? Rob Distefano
are you back? Recent Twisted releases are seeing
movement on the dance charts such as Dark Beat(Oscar
G) & Irresistable (Superchumbo). Funky Green Dogs
have signed to Star 69 records (www.star69records.com).
Their latest "Rise Up" hits stores this week (see
review). Also from Star 69 on limited vinyl release
are the full length remixes of LNR's "Work It To The
Bone" and Sal Dano's "Shake". As far as I'm aware
the only place in town to get them (other than
stealing them from the internet) is Grammaphone
records. |

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!! Chicago songstress
Celeda has teamed up with Mike Cruz for a new cut
called "Deep Around". It's currently in production
and should be done by the new year. Early reports
say this song is SICKENING!!! Andrea Love's "Shine
On Me" is reportedly getting a new life injection
from MZ Junior Vasquez. No word on a street date
for these mixes. INXS puts out "Tight" on Tommyboy
Records with mixes by Chicago's Thick Dick. Victor
Calderone's new cut "The Drive" is making its way
into stores. Cute cut from the Brooklyn native. A
Cute track out on white label right now is Dino
Lenny's "Change the World". I hope a label picks
this up soon. It's hitting!!! Anna Nicole Smith
and Junior Vasquez? Is it a nightmare? Is it hell?
Well, actually…….yes it's both and it's true. Junior
has stooped to an all time low by remixing this camp
kook's Theme Song. Junior and DJ Wolf (who?) do 3
mixes a piece on this new single that comes complete
with an Anna Nicole doll. Hey listen, I couldn't
make up trash this bad. "Sugar Pie!!!! Shut Up!"
THE SPANISH CONNECTION: Wally Lopez & Dr. Kucho hit
us on Weekend Records with "Le Fabrique Du Son" and
"La Luna". Adolf Marsan delivers "Ghosts" and Mr.
Free has "Personal Differences". Both tracks come
off BeatFreak Records. As I've mentioned before, if
you like underground music, check out the stuff
coming from Spain. AYE TAN CUTE!!!! |

Onto the progressive side, Todd Terry AKA Tee's
Freeze revamps the 80's classic "Falling Down" on
InHouse Records. I forgot how fierce the vocal on
this song was until Tee threw it back to the dance
world. Luzon gives "Manila Sunrise" and Undisputed
Truth gives "Pursuit of The Purple Pimp Mobile" all
on Yoshitoshi records this week. William U
investigates "The Depths of Sound" on Eightball.
This Columbian remixer's first track hits street
January 6th. Gardner & Thomas release "Turn To
Try" on Hooj Choons. The Red Jerry mixes give quite
a full feel to this tune. A lot of fun coming from
the Defected label in January. Sandy Rivera
featuring Haze will release "Changes" on two
12inches January 6th, with Ben Watt (Lazy Dog) doing
the mixes. Bob Sinclair lets "The Beat Go On"
January 13th with a release and mixes by Antoine
Clamaran, Junio Jack, and Roger Sanchez. Jay -J
(Naked Music fame) releases "Keep On Rising" in
February with mixes by Chus & Ceballos. Rumbles of
a West Coast sessions mix CD compilation coming in
March of next year on Defected from Jay-J and Miguel
Migs. Ok, it's time for my alter-ego and ghetto
sister Kii Kii to throw in her 2 cents. Have a
happy new year everyone, and dance like no one is
watching!!! |

KII KII'S 2
cents, Short & Sassy!!:
Funky Green Dog's gospel tribute hits vinyl this
week. "Rise Up" by FGD on
Star 69 gets the
twice over from Junior Vasquez and Peter Rauhofer. Peter's mix is big room splendor
reminiscing upon the traditional Club 69 sound.
Vocalist Tamara Wallace's lyrics never sounded
so fierce. Junior delivers the goods with his
Earth Mix! Jr's Huge dramatic peaks and build
ups line this powerful ditty. WORK ME, GODDAMNIT!!!! |

M'Black's EP on
Jellybean features 2 tracks: "Looking for Danger"
and "Day Dream". Looking for Danger features singer
Honeycake's sultry yet power vocals over snappy,
driving music. The keys are deep, and the beat is
fun. Day Dream is the music from the flipside sans
vocal, but with housier lines. A fun tune. GRADE A. |

The hard house
heavy hitters Teri Bristol & Psycho-bitch
(www.dj-teribristol.com)
team up again to give us their latest double mix
CD compilation entitled "Boo-Ga-Loo" on Metal
Works records. Teri's disc 1 highlights her
flawless, seamless mixing style while also
giving listeners a dose of her new production
work on several of the tracks therein. (It's
good to hear her remixing again!). Disc 2 gives
Psycho the way her fans like it : HARD!!! Also
showcasing her impeccable mixing, Bitch drills
home the techno-bangin' sound which her and
Teri have made famous. To the fans of Hard
House, this CD comes highly recommened!

this CD at Tower Records) |

Vivian Green's
"Emotional Rollercoaster" on Columbia Records
doesn't really hit the mark. Only Junior Vasquez has
remixed this project. It would have been nice to
have some other remixers to which to compare this
song. Junior usually is an immpeccable producer/remixer
but here he reverts to his older standard drama
style that was cute back in the day, but fails in
the year 2002. Grade C. |
