power house DJs on the main floor as a team for the
first time. Mike Serafini and
Freddie Bain tore the
room apart combining house, mainstream, and
progressive elements into a recipe that tasted
FABULOUS! Well deserved and long overdue, we hope
this team reoccurs regularly. DJ Ra turned it out
back on November 10th at Crobar.
Ra, the Egyptian God of the Sun, gave us pure Miami
with rhythm and beats served fresh. November 15th
saw Berlin & Greg Haus (www.hauswerkz.com) hosting the Soft Cell release
party for their new CD Cruelty Without Beauty.
Also on the 15th was Chicago remixer/producer
Derrick Carter playing a set @ Zentra. Street
crawlers at both events state they were mucho
happenin’. Manny Lehman didn’t let the children
off the dancefloor on the 17th at Crobar
as he played until close. Stay tuned for more of
Mr. Lehman after the first of the year. |

Some regular flavors to add in your soup: Tuesday
sees door hostess Lisa Lexus at Felt serving it up
spicy. We’ve been getting quite a cute crowd in
there for our “dance hits” night. Keep up the good
work, Lisa. Wednesdays are still SPINing after all
these years with Freddie Bain @ What The Fuck
Wednesdays. Eric Daly serves North Boysville’s
Atmosphere every Thursday night. Attracting quite a
crowd up there, Mr. Daly!! Rumbles of a new club on
Belmont next to Clark’s Restaurant. It’s called
Club 930 and from what the children of the night
tell me, confirmed spinners consist of Oscar
McMillan, Mike Serafini, Shawn Mock and Jungle Jorge
Suarez (Jungle playing Motown & Jazz). When doors
open, watch for MZ Eterno in an afro-puff to be
standing in line. In case you didn’t get the
memo…….Fridays at Manhole are STILL ferocious with
Jim Lewis tossing deep salad for the children.

Events up and coming include Frankie
Knuckles’ annual fierceness at the House of Blues on
the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. He’s been
spinning this one for years and always turns it
out. It’s becoming quite a classic event. Crobar
hosts international DJ Danny Howells on November
29th. Big Wig in Wicker Park hosts a guest set
from Lego on November 30th. And lastly, DJ
Dimitri from Paris will be letting us have it on
December 13th at SuperLounge.

Derrick Carter
just released a full-length album called Square
Dancing in a Round House on Classic Records. His
unique and fun styles are ever-present in his most
recent production. Give it a listen if you get a
chance. For those into tribal fun, check out a
couple of new Tony Thomas releases: Tightrope and
Beginings (Soma Records) are a lot of fun and
banging dancefloors across the city. Linda Clifford
teams up with Ralphi again for I Hear the
Music/Strings of Life on Nitegrooves records. Soon
to be released on Amplitude Records is artist
Aalacho's Satellite. Jump ball toss provided by
Evolved. Speaking of Amplitude Records, if you get
a chance, check out their website. They are out of
Miami and have artists such as Eday, Evolved and
Michael M. signed. Mike Da Mooch runs this fun
label and an awesome site.

Bjork released her
greatest hits (Greg Haus threw the release party at
Berlin November 8th) last week along with a new cut
entitled It's In Our Hands. Kelly Roland gives us
Stole on Columbia Records with mixes from the
Chicago connection: Maurice Joshua, Bear Who?,
Charlie Rosario, Hoola, and AZZA & Fingers. (All of
them are from Chi-town) Kylie minogue fans can bask
in the warmth of her new release Come Into My World
on Capitol records. Robbie Rivera, Fischerspooner,
and Ash dice up MZ Kylie. Justin Timberlake (I
know, I know!) screams Like I Love You on Jive
Records with mixes by Basement Jaxx and Deep Dish.
Laura Pausini releases Surrender on Atlantic Records
with carvings by Mike Rizzo, Ford, Lenny B., Nick
Fierce, and Frank Amoros. A rarely available cut by
Altered Ego featuring Deejay called Don't Rush Me is
making waves on progressive dancefloors across town.
Definitive Records released the D. Ramirez mixes to
much delight from DJ's and I hear it may be making
its way to a CD release. Lastly, Paul Oakenfold
revamps, recuts, and releases his interpretation of
the James Bond Theme in time for the Die Another Day
debut. If you like break-beat, you'll like this
cut. And now onto reviews: |

Dark, dirty tribal
funk. That's how I describe Mix the Vibe: Cevin
Fisher NYC "New York Resolution (King Street
Records). VERY BLACK PARTY! Upon seeing a track
listing of songs like Superwoman by GTS, Keep It
Coming by 7, and Butterfly by Mondo Grosso I thought
this to be another fluff puff piece. However, Cevin
delivers a sound that is part funk, part tribal, and
part progressive by combining tunes remixed by
himself, Ananda Project, That Kid Chris, and Johnny
Dangerous. His true skill as a DJ shines through
with his use of acapella drops and repeat layering
of songs throughout the mix. The transitions are
seamless and ferocious. Warning to the sisters of
the circuit persuasion: This compilation may not be
for you. Sisters of the leather persuasion: Break
out the Crisco! Grade A. |

12inches of Cox
by Chris Cox on Provocative Records give us a
cute title from one half of the Thunderpuss remix
team. Does the mix compilation live up to
expecations? Keeping in mind that this is a
mainstream compilation, I tried not to be too
critical of the Chris's continued use of several Cox
& Thunderpuss mixes throughout the CD. (Something
Rauhofer, Tenaglia, and Ralphi also do in their
compilations) He does surprise listeners with
selections such as Strong by Mooncat (Superchumbo
mixes), I'm So Crazy by Par-T-One (Dirty Vegas mix),
and We Are All Made of Stars by Moby. Through use
of these songs, one can see Cox's attempt to show
some variety. I feel that he succeeds. The
attempted variety is noteworthy. On a scale of
one to ……..12inches. I say Cox sticks it in
10inches deep. |

Cyn's new
single Fantasy Reality on Star69 records (www.star69records.com)
gives us more of the signature dark and sexy for
which Peter Rauhofer's label is known. DJ
Disciple's Sinister mix hits us deep and tribal with
drums and funky rhythms over Cyn's sultry whispers.
Superchumbo's mix is just as deep but lined with
more synthesized lines of hard music. (a slow
techno, if you will). Freshman Cyn delivers one
hell of a dance release and does it right. |

Dirty Vegas'
new single I Should Know on Credence Records
is a must have for the fan of underground music.
D.V. gives mixes from Alex Nari and Wally Lopez.
Lopez's vocal and dub deliver smooth house beats
with deep tech-ey flavor. A slight tribal
inflection makes this quite a yummy treat. Nari is
less housey and more progressive, with darker synths
lining his mixes. Currently a pre-release, pick
this one up once it hits the stores. |
