Hi kids, MZ Kii Kii doesn't have much
excitement to report this week. She's still
recovering from Fireball (read
the Fireball wrap - Fireball photos),
Valentine's day and a ton of other social
ailments, but she'll give you what she can:
Since the tragedy at E2 club on the South
Side, many of our favorite haunts and
happenins' have also come under much
scrutiny by MZ Daley and her team of
tyrants. Rive Gauche', and Red No. 5
supposedly have had sections of their clubs
"temporarily" shut. Even my favorite play
"Puppetry of the Penis" was shut down
temporarily at the Broadway Theatre last
week as a result of this "crack down". Don't
be surprised to see the mayor's goon squad
coming Homo way soon to our clubs to |

check them up and down. Now, I'm
not against having safe clubs in which to party. If
a club isn't safe, then they should be held
accountable. But word is that the city has been a
little Gestapo-ish in their tactics of checking out
clubland. And what does all of this mean for
Crobar's facelift?
Will Soundbar ever open? Should I paint my nails
Blush or Bashful? What drama! Anyway……IT'S ALL ABOUT
FREDDIE. How cute is MZ Bain? (www.songsforcoins.com)
She was recently chosen "hand model of the year" or
some shit like that for an upcoming commercial which
will show her hands at the turntables slicing
it……and in case ya didn't know she's also back on
the decks at Red Dog
on Mondays in the Boom Boom Room after all these
years. An original founder of that night, it's a
pleasure to have her back.
Berlin and Greg
Haus (www.hauswerkz.com)
hosted the FischerSpooner party on Friday February
21st. The crowd was cute and way happenin'. I hear
that FischerSpooner was schooled in Chicago or
something to that effect. Local gal Greg Drescher
filled in for Heather recently at
Berlin on a
Thursday night. He had the crowd LIVING with a
combination of underground and Progressive House -
so much so that he's guesting there again on the
20th of March. Tony Humphries rang in the 3rd year
anniversary of Music 101 at Transit back on the
28th. Have we mentioned how much we love Transit's
space? Grammy Award Winner Roger Sanchez graced
Chicago at Vision back on March 8th. This party was
actually a lot of fun with a good mix of boyz and
gals. March 9th saw Domaine hosting the Queer as
Nervous party for their new Sunday night. CD
giveaways, booze and queens everywhere had MZ Kii
Kii feeling like Karen from Will & Grace. March 15th
will see MZ Xviara Snow and company hosting the
"Envy" party at Spin.
Jungle Jorge Suarez will be lighting up the
dancefloor and Nikole with give us video bliss in
the front bar.
Well kids, it's time for my facial and botox
injections, so until next time……….Ciao! |

DJ/Producer
Peter Rauhofer |
|
Where do you currently play? |
|
My residency is at ROXY here in New
York. |
 |
|
How
long have you been a DJ? |
|
Back in Vienna in 1983 was my first
DJ gig. |
 |
|
What was your first gig ever? |
|
I worked in a record store and the
owner, who was a famous Austrian
deejay, took sick one day and sent
me to the club to play instead of
him. It was his biggest mistake. The
club hired me from that moment on.
And that was nearly 20 years ago. |
 |
|
How
would you describe your style? |
|
My musical style is from NY
Underground to tech-house to tribal
house to vocals. I play about 10
hours on Saturdays at Roxy, taking
people on musical journeys through
different kind of styles throughout
the night. |

Roger Sanchez took home the remixer of the year
award from the Grammy's for No Doubt's "Hella Good".
Personally I would have liked to see a Chicagoan win
it considering how many local gals were nominated,
but I'm pleased with the choice none the less. |

Some fun and funky releases coming our way pre-
Winter Music conference:
DJ Debra & The Source land a diva sounding "My
Bizznizz" on Wildlife Records with a cute slice up
by Tony Thomas. C & M Productions feat. Marcel
releases a 2003 version of their club hit "True
House". The remixes are done by Saeed of Saeed &
Palesh and Richie Santana as the Soul Penetrator.
Mendo feat. Christie K tells us to "Move On". This
is the follow up to Mendo's fierce cut "Nevermind".
They come to us courtesy of Groove On Records. |
|
West coast House pioneers Jay -J and Miguel Migs
team up for a 2 CD mix compilation called "In The
House" on Defected records later this month. Tracks
from Sany Rivera, Little Louis Vega, Michelle Weeks,
and Julie McKnight promise to make this one hell of
a release. Remember an old track called "Beat Me
Harder"? Seems the previously unreleased Victor
Calderone and Trattner & Galvan mixes are breathing
new life into this track. Courtesy of Eightball
Shop, these new mixes are hot. Speaking of re-dids….X-press-2's
Muzikizum is in re-release with Tom Stephan (Superchumbo)
mixes on Skint Records. Pop Out and Play delivers
"While You Where Sleeping" on Purpose records.
Justin Drake of Peace Division slices up this track
quite cute. On Global Net Records you can search for
a cute house track by Holy Ghost called "Superman".
The label doesn't credit the vocalist, but she's
diva and she's taking it THROUGH with this song. On
the tribal side of the street, we have an awesome
E.P. from Stefano Noferini called "Destination Drums
#3" - The high point of this release is a cut by
Jesse Garcia & Tribal Spain called "Santa Cruz De
Tenerife". It is peak hour tribal and it is hitting. |
|
Are you feeling House? - Check out Terri Walker's
"Guess You Didn't Love Me". See the review attached.
Also on the House tip is a cut by Miguel Bose'
called "Sereno" on Weekend Records. Wally Lopez and
Dr. Kucho give it the Spanish House flare. On the
Progressive tip, Nuddles releases "Locked On" from
Bedrock Records. The Meat Katie mix is my personal
favorite on this tune. Satoshi Tomiie and the Little
Green Men are back on Forensic Records with "Fishead".
It's a deep tune, so handle with care. |

For the Chart-watchers and those on the mainstream
dance tip, Whitney Houston's "Try It On My Own" has
finally crept into the top 20 this week. Dawn
Tallman's "Let It Go" on Nervous also dips into
Billboard's hitlist. Celine Dion's "I Drove All
Night" on Epic Records is finally moving forward.
You have all read about me making fun of Justin
Timberlake's "Cry Me A River", but it seems he's
having the last laugh at me! The Dirty Vegas mixes
of this cut have moved it into BB's top 10 this
week. I am guilty of liking the Junior Vazquez mixes
myself. Jr's mix is only available on the CD release
apparently. Near the top of the chart at the release
of this page is Robbie Rivera's "Hum Melody" on
Juicy Records. Currently at #2, let's see if it
knocks "Rise Up" out of the top of the chart. Read
on for a series of guest reviews from DJ Greg
Drescher and DJ Keith Ware. Lastly, Dancestar USA is
hostly the only televised dance music awards live
from the beach on March 19th in South Beach. All of
your favorite remixers and producers will be there.
Stay tuned for more televised details. |

Toni Braxton - Hit the Freeway
(UK mixes) Arista UK
Though ya'll may be into the Hex hector mix, this is
the only dance mix that is currently commercially
available right now. Goldtrix, from I'm Trippin
fame, Is on the mix with a smooth progressive house
mix. It's a great alternative to your standard NYC
remixer fair. - DJ Keith Ware |
|
|
|
Nuddles - Lock On (Bedrock
Breaks UK)
I love this record. It's got a nice chuggy, bouncy &
throbby Progressive mix. It may be a little fast on
pitch. But it still sounds great slowed down. Oh,
and the other side has a Meat Katie mix - DJ Keith
Ware |
|
|
|
Renée Stakey - Rainy Day
(Robbins Ent. US)
ANTHEM ALERT!!! Boris & Beck are on fire with their
typical tribal anthem fun. The vocals are very
similar to Kristine W. Many a circuit boy will live
for this one. - DJ Keith Ware |
|
|
|
Dakota - Sureshot (A+R UK)
This pre-release has uplifting vocals and a classic
garage style that will get any foot a tappin'. The
catchy jazzy hook will get you on the floor singing
along. - DJ Keith Ware |

In keeping to their Tribal New
York sound, Friburn and Urik have done it
again with "Elefants" on Star 69 (www.star69records.com).
F&U's standard deep tribal intro builds into a
fierce frenzy of drums and synthesized keys until a
huge drop in the middle of the song makes you beg
for more. There is a dub mix, but F & U don't do
many vocals anyway. As the booming voice says in the
song, "Bounce!" - Chris Eterno |
|
|
|
Relative newcomer Terri Walker's
R & B track "Guess You Didn't Love Me" gets
the once over from Ben Watt on Def Soul. Watt (AKA
The Lazy Dog. AKA Everything But the Girl) delivers
a smooth House beat over his standard cool keys.
They match well with Walker's vocal making for a
House music triumph. - Chris Eterno |
|
|
|
Check out C & M Productions
Feat. Marcel's "True House" 2003 Remixes. New on
SPF records, Saeed delivers a deep progressive mix
tinged with tribal inflections. The fierceness is
delivered also in the Richie Santana Soul Penetrator
remix. Hard hitting dark tribal, Santana gives an
awesome remix. Both mixes succeed at making ya move.

Pet Shop Boys "Sexy
Northerner" Sanctuary
Combine the dark progressive sound of Superchumbo
(A.K.A. Tom Stephan) with the distinctive vocals of
the PSB chanting, "How…does it feel?" The result? A
sexy new track that's sure to get the boys grinding
on the dance floor. Get a room! - DJ Greg Drescher |

iio "At The End" Made
Records (www.maderecords.com)
How can iio follow up on the success of "Rapture"?
Wait a year and release another outstanding track!
The vocals of Nadia Ali, the lead singer, are
captivating and blend well with a smooth,
progressive rhythm. Each mix has a unique feel with
noteworthy ones by Johnny Vicious, Saeed & Palash,
Scumfrog, and my favorite, the MadeEdit. More mixes
of various flavors were just released, so it'll be a
while before you'hear the end of this song. - DJ

Alyson Calagna "Party Groove -
Blue Ball Volume 2" Centaur Records
Tribal progressive tracks, layered with samples and
a cappellas, plenty o' drums and horns, compiled by
a gal in the circuit? Did someone say Tracy Young?
Nope, but her fans will want to check out the new
girl in town, Alyson Calagna, hailing from New
Orleans. She starts the energy on this CD with
bangin' beats and doesn't let up, adding just enough
vocals by way of Dawn Tallman, Shauna Solomon &
Aimee Ramirez to satisfy the masses. Of special note
-- her rendition of the powerful hit, "Alert" by
Supala, with an unreleased vocal by MBJ (who?)
dropped perfectly near the end. WERK IT, GURL! - DJ
