Well, hello and happy New Year to the children of Chicago happenins’. New Year’s Eve around the city brought all of us out to one venue or another. Joe G at Crobar rocked the sisters of circuit persuasion. Halsted St. was bumpin’ and jumpin’ all night long from Spin to Cocktail to Charlie’s. New Year’s day saw many afterhours (more)

FIREBALL: Chris Eterno previews the fierce DJ line-up

(con't) around the city that proved to be mucho fun for the hard core. January 5th brought a packed house to Crobar for it’s Last Dance. Over 16 DJ’s lined the rafters in the club to pay tribute to a Chicago mainstay closing its doors for remodeling. Most of the old GLEE DJ’s made it back for this party. There were many teary eyes at the end of the night. Hats off to you, Crobar, and GLEE for 10 proud years of fun in the city! If you haven’t had the chance to check out SOS (Spectrum of Sound) hosted by Cedric at Minx, 111 W. Hubbard, give it a look. Tuesday nights are supposed to be happenin’ with chic style. IS IT A SPARK?!?!??!! Rumors abound New Year’s morning of a party at Funky Buddha Lounge. Luis M @ 6am? Nowhere to be found. Apparently, there was supposed to be a SPARK party with one of my favorites, Luis M, throwing down the progressive sounds but it didn’t fruition. Stay tuned because it’s supposed to kick in sometime around the 10th of February, or so say the queens of night time living. His afterhours over IML was DA BOMB!!!! Thursday January 9th saw DJ Eric Daly tearing up the main floor at Domaine. Welcome back and Happy New year, Erik!

WHO’S THE FIIIERRRCESTSTSS OF THEM ALL? Would you like to vote for your favorite DJ? Best male DJ? Best Female DJ? Best Bar? Best promoter? Log on to www.localsound.com between now and January 15th to let them know your nominations. From that list you will be able to vote again for the finalists between January 20th and February 15th. The Phoenix party strikes again on January 18th at the Metro in the form of The Ice Ball (the preview party for Fireball). DJ Earl Pleasure hands us pleasure with his sounds abound for this event. Phoenix then presents TNT, a series of T dances with DJ Tom McBride @ Excalibur on January 19th. MUCHO happening on the 19th as DJ Jim Lewis hits the mainfloor of GLAM! Sundays at Domaine. Also on the 19th marked on my calender in big sissy letters is the coming together

of 2 house music legends. Frankie Knuckles and David Morales will be spinning together at Transit on the 19th of January. Rumor is that the whole Def Mix clan from New York is flying in for this awesome event. If you are into ANY kind of dance music at all, then this party is for you. It’s going to be a who’s who of remixers and producers under one roof!!! A must see.

Well that’s it until next time, Chi-cows!!!!! Toodles!!!

Where do you currently play?

I currently play at the Manhole on Tuesday nights and the third Saturday of the month. My last special event was In Miami at Crobar for New Years weekend.

How long have you been a DJ?

Six years -- three of them in clubs.

What was your first gig ever?

My first gig was a T-Dance at Crobar for seven hours!

How would you describe your style?

Oh boy, I play a wide mixture of music but love to play sexy tribal and progressive house.

What is one of your favorite labels?

*69 and Sondos have been on a roll lately. I like a lot of the smaller labels, too. For remixers I like Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer, Ralphie, Danny Tenaglia, Murk, Superchumbo, D. Ramirez, and Dr. Kucho and Wally.

Sadly, kids………there isn’t much to report musically this issue. For those not in the “know”, the period between Christmas and just after New Year’s is when all the record labels (domestic & import) shut down and go on holiday. Most music stores won’t take special orders during this period either. But being the bitch that I am, I’ll give ya what I got! Friburn & Urik make us “Dance To the Rhythm” on Tommyboy Silver. Salad tossed by Peter Bailey. Underworld gives us a “Dinosaur Adventure 3D” on V2 records with a slice up by Sharp. Antoine Clamaran features Ritual on Congos Records. 3 tribal ditties line Antoine’s E.P; Zumba E’, Easy, and Feel the Drum. Rumbles of a new Harlequin/Angelo Kortez team up, but I don’t have a release date yet. We’ve all heard The Perpetuous Dreamer with “The Sounds of Goodbye”. Just before the holiday, Nebula records released Armin’s Tribal Feel mix to this song on vinyl finally. It’s apparently been on the net for quite some time. If ya didn’t know, it’s the fiercest of all the mixes on this track and ironically……it isn’t tribal at all. It’s high trance and it’s living!! The pound boys give us disco/funk verve with “Time Baby” on Color Records. It’s available in parts I and II. Bjork says “All Is Full of Love” on a white label release. If you like trancey breaks, you’ll like this cut. Progressive artist Andy Moor gives us “Athena” as part of his CRAZY LADY E.P. The Placid Goddess remixes this song to the heavens. X-press-2 releases “Supasong” on Skint records. The remixes say it all : a 1am mix, and a 6am mix. Main Element hits us with “Take Me Down” on Silver records. New York’s Lemon8 do a hairstyle on this that is way cute. Angie Stone hits us with the long awaited “Bottles & Cans” on J records with a re-did by Guido. Solange is “Feeling You” on Columbia records with remixes by Calderone & Quayle. Not yet available outside of New York is a cute white label called “Swiss Diner”. Someone took the old Suzanne Vega song “Tom’s Diner” and hyped it up with some fierce progressive house sounds. There’s no middle ground on this one. You will either love it or hate it. Well, that’s it for now children. Onto reviews.

Vivian Green – Emotional Rollercoaster – Columbia Records

Pay your admission, strap yourself in Vivian green is taking you on an emotional rollercoaster. This new single from the songbird is a testimonial about promises never kept loving her man and a relationship that’s not healthy or good for her THE GIRLS JUST HAD IT! But haven’t we all been their? With mixes from Junior Vasquez making it even more of a ride. My favorite mix being the earth anthem you will hear why hes one of the masters. If you like vocals with meaning and heart THIS ONE IS RIGHT ON TRACK!

Pirates Of Tribal – Ill Be Your Beats – White Label 12

Take 2 parts Celeda add 2 parts Robert Owens pour in big room tribal drums mix well and you have Ill Be Your Beats a white label 12 inch that is nothing but bangin bumpin and jumpin music. They take a sample of Celedas club smash hit (The underground) the part that we are all familiar with (Let me take you on a trip) The Robert Owens classic from back in the day titled (Ill be your friend) and flawlessly mix in drums FO YO ASS! Seriously I love this. On the other hand when these white labels are made the artists don’t get compensation or recognition for the hard work that went into the original and believe me sister Celeda is not happy about it! Enough said about Piracy hmmmmmmmm I wonder if that’s where they got their name? All in all this is definitely a record that stands above the rest if your fortunate to get a copy check out the flipside theres yet another classic remake of The Realm (hot like the sun) This truly is a journey full of sound and beats!
